Incineration

Incineration is considered to be an environmentally friendly solution because there is an output from the process - electricity.

  • A vast majority of people believe that the benefits of the output far exceed the damage the process causes the environment

  • Burning of waste products results in creating ash, gas and heat. A by-product of this process is carbon monoxide, which is a significant contributor to the development of global warming.

Over 1 million sq m of mats are disposed of every year. In Europe, 2.5 million kg of waste mats, rubber and fibre have to be disposed of, these contain Sulphur, Zinc, Oil, Carbon Black, which are discarded every month.

Your customers are becoming more increasingly aware of the need to recycle, and mats are no exception.  The recycle demand will continue to grow and suppliers will be expected to have plans in place  for every rental item, including mats.

Landfill

  • Landfill sites are often responsible for the contamination of soil and groundwater, as the contaminating materials (such as lead and mercury) can spread to the soil and water near the plant.

  • Landfill sites release biogas into the atmosphere. Biogas is a mixture formed primarily of methane gas (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), two of the gases that cause climate change and an increase in the planet's temperature. It is said that landfill sites will account for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 if we continue to dispose of our materials this way.

  • Sometimes methane produced by waste from landfill sites can cause explosions and fires. This downside is more common than meets the eye, because the fires that occur are not regular fires with flames, but fires that occur inside the landfill. Dioxin emissions from these spontaneous uncontrolled fires are also very harmful to the environment.
